THE COLOR
OF
DESIRE

"The Color of Desire" is a paper puppet show based on “Haj Barikalla”, a story written by the Iranian author, Mihan Bahrami (1947-2017). Here, we want to take you back 150 years to an old house in Tehran, where puppets emerge from an old chest and a woman narrates a story of her adolescent days among other women in that house.
The story revolves around a Ta'zieh (a traditional Iranian religious drama) singer, resulting in a significant presence of Iranian traditional music in the show.

summary

The story revolves around a girl who resides in the house of one of the Qajar princes, who has three wives, each with her own desires. She observes them speaking ardently about a man, "Haj Barikalla", who is a great and celebrated Ta'zieh singer.
Khan (the husband) has forbidden the women from attending Ta'zieh, but the tragedy occurs when Khan finally allows them to go.
